Warrington Voluntary Action

local charity • project branding • visual assets • website illustrations • digital illustration

"Working with Stef was an absolute dream. As a local charity it was great that Stef took the time to discuss ideas that would work well for our client group. She fully understood our brief, designing images and branding that really represent who we are"

ALISON CULLEN, CEO OF WARRINGTON VOLUNTARY ACTION

Warrington Voluntary Action is a medium sized charity that provides infrastructure services to local charities, including volunteering opportunities in my hometown of Warrington.

In addition to these core activities, they also run projects to support the health and social care needs of the local population. One such scheme is the Good Neighbours volunteering project, which offers services such as befriending, shopping, and light exercise for those who need an extra helping hand in the community.

Chief Officer Alison Cullen approached me to design some illustrations for this project for use on their website. The brief was to create a new logo and images for each strand of the project that were friendly, inclusive, and positive about aging and different abilities. WVA already has a strong and trusted brand locally, and the Good Neighbours illustrations would need to look recognisable as WVA, whilst simultaneously having their own identity as an independent project.

I decided to create images with a softer appearance to my usual style in order to communicate a friendlier, more approachable effect. I made use of a digital 6b pencil, and created shapes with a ‘cut-out’ technique rather than making use of heavy lines. I also added a warm bright yellow tone to the existing WVA brand colours to differentiate the project, whilst still linking it to the charity. The content of the images feature ages, abilities and ethnicities represented within the project.
